The library contains more than 140,000 volumes of books, magazines, and microfilms about the history and culture of Edo-Tokyo.

All of our own publications, including exhibition catalogs, research bulletins, and issues of the Edo-Tokyo Museum News are preserved. We also collect catalogs and bulletins of other museums as well as publications concerning local history and important local cultural properties.


Book access

Hours : 9:30-11:30 and 13:00-16:30

All books in the reading area can be consulted freely.
Books in the restricted area and all microfilms must be requested.

Copying service

Hours : 9:30-11:30 and 13:00-16:30

Books : 30 yen per sheet
Microfilm : 30 yen per frame

You are allowed to make one copy each of the reference material for your personal research purpose as long as you do not violate the copyright law. Some materials are not available for copying to protect their condition.

We do not lend books.
