Approximately 9,000 excavations are conducted each year throughout Japan, but opportunities to actually handle the results of these are extremely limited. For this reason, to allow more people to gain familiarity with Japan’s buried cultural assets and to deepen public understanding of the importance of protecting these, this exhibition will offer a display of approximately 670 objects from 51 ruins and other archaeological sites.

* The permanent exhibition admission fee is free in the following cases. Preschool children. Anyone who has a physical disability certificate, intellectual disability certificate, rehabilitation certificate, mental health and welfare certificate, or an official designation as an atomic bomb survivor, as well as their attending caregivers (up to two people).

* Junior high school, high school, university, and technical school students are required to present a student ID card, and those aged 65 and over are required to present proof of age (health insurance card, driver’s license, etc.).

新発見考古速報展

近年発掘された遺跡や、成果がまとまった縄文時代から近世までの遺跡について、速報展示します。

特集１ 日本の自然が育んだ多様な地域文化

南北に細長い日本列島では、山脈と平野からなる起伏に富んだ地形とその周囲を流れる海流により、多様な気候と自然環境が生み出され、人々はそうした自然と共生する中で多様な地域文化を育んできました。本特集では、旧石器時代から古墳時代にかけての各地域の遺跡の発掘調査成果をつうじて、列島を織りなす多様な歴史文化の姿を紹介します。

特集２ 記念物100年―我がまちが誇る史跡・名勝・天然記念物―

記念物は、我が国にとって歴史上・学術上価値の高い遺跡、観賞上価値の高い名勝地、学術上価値の高い動物・植物・地質鉱物の総称で、その中で重要なものは文化財保護法により「史跡」「名勝」「天然記念物」に指定されています。記念物を保護する制度である｢史蹟名勝天然紀念物保存法｣が施行されて、昨年で100年の節目を迎え、文化庁では「記念物100年」事業を行っています。今年度は「我がまちが誇る史跡・名勝・天然記念物」と題して、記念物の魅力を広く国民の皆さんと共有するために行われている全国各地の取組を紹介します。

地域展　「東京府史蹟」

【開催概要】
文化財保護法の前身の一つである「史蹟名勝天然紀念物保存法」は、1919年（大正8）4月10日に制定、同年6月1日に施行されました。東京府は、保存法施行のわずか24日後の6月25日に、『東京府史蹟』を刊行しました。
『東京府史蹟』は、当時の東京における史跡、名勝地、天然記念物合計６７件を写真と解説文で紹介しています。題字は、東京府知事　井上友一が揮毫。序には、史蹟名勝天然紀念物保存の重要性を説き、1917年に史蹟保存心得を公布し、普及活動として史蹟講演会と展覧会を開催、1919年2月に台帳作成を開始したことが書かれています。本書刊行の経緯や時期から、東京府は、「史蹟名勝天然紀念物保存法」の内容を意識し、編纂にあたったことが伺えます。
展示では、館蔵及び寄託資料で、「史蹟名勝天然紀念物保存法」成立当時における東京府史蹟の一部を紹介します。
